Many people enjoy walking in beautiful landscapes. Hilly walks can be particularly alluring to keen ramblers and walkers. There can be something so rewarding about climbing up to the top of a hill and enjoying wonderful views of the surrounding areas when you reach the peak. For hill walking opportunities in the UK you have to pick the right area. Wales and Scotland are particularly well known for their opportunities for hilly walks and are also home to mountainous areas. Wales has the peaks of Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons. Wales also has a number of valleys which are better suited for gentle hill walking. Scotland, like Wales, is home to some mountainous areas including the Grampian mountains and the Cairngorms. In and around these areas though there are plenty of munros and opportunities for hilly walks.
In England if you are seeking the satisfaction of hill walking you really have to pick the best area. There is no point for example going to largely flat areas like Suffolk or Norfolk with the aim of climbing peaks. For peaks why not head for Derbyshire and the Peak District or the Lake District which is known for its fells and lakes. Or head further north and go to Northumberland which is known for its beauty and hills. Wherever you decide to go for a rambling self catering break we trust that you will have an enjoyable walking holiday. Remember to check safety advice before setting off and make sure that you are well prepared. Where possible do enjoy walking as part of a small party or group, walking alone is less fun for most people.
