No. 1 – London

London has to be one of the top destinations in the world for short breaks.  With world class attractions, this large city has lots to recommend it.  There is something iconic about London which means that so many people are keen to take a break in this fabulous city.  From Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye, London offers plenty of fantastic views and a fascinating history.  The bright lights of the West End continue to draw in the crowds for shopping, nightlife and theatres.   Choice of self-catering accommodation in London is usually limited to apartments.

 

 

No. 2 – Krakow
This Polish city is increasing in popularity for short breaks away.  Poland is a great choice of destination for short breaks, particularly for those with a love of culture and history.  With a flight time from London of little over 2 hours, this beautiful historical city is much more accessible than you may initially think!  Krakow’s jewels include the Castle, the Jewish Quarter and the main square.  There is an amazing assortment of flavoured vodkas to try, our vote for the best goes to the honey flavoured variety.  Day trips available from Krakow include those to a special underground salt mine where you can view some amazing salt sculptures.   Krakow also often plays host to some fantastic musical performances and you can usually come across some highly talented musicians playing for crowds on the street.  With an arty, relaxed vibe, Krakow is a great city for a relaxed self-catering holiday.

Dublin is a great city for a short self-catering break.  Flight times from London to Dublin are around one hour and twenty minutes meaning that you can get to this vibrant city relatively quickly and easily.  Located by the coast and with a river flowing through the city, this is a city with a great buzz and vibrant feel about it.  Best enjoyed for its beautiful buildings, great shopping and great nightlife, Dublin is a great place to just take it easy for a few days on a short self-catering break.

 

 

No. 4 –Budapest, Hungary
Budapest is the jewel in Hungary’s crown and a fantastic place to enjoy a short break when you only have a few days to spare.  With wonderful historical buildings, a river, restaurants and bars, this is a wonderful European city.  Take a boat trip or guided walking tour to see the best of the city.

Edinburgh is a regal place to take a short self-catering holiday.  Renowned for its entertainment, each year Edinburgh plays host to the Fringe Festival but there is plenty going on at other times of year too.  There is an excellent selection of bars, restaurants and shopping making Edinburgh a great place for a lively break away.  Edinburgh’s architecture is stunning and historically important.  This Scottish city is home to two UNESCO heritage sites with Edinburgh’s Old Town and New Town both being awarded this protected status.  Edinburgh Castle dominates the city from its lofty heights and is a must-see attraction when visiting the city, the views from the castle of the city down below are simply to die for!  Apartments are the most popular choice when it comes to self-catering breaks in the city although some prefer to book cottage accommodation nearby and travel in for day trips.
